David Drury looks at life with heart and humor.   His writing ranges from the thoughtful (Christian spirituality and service) to the funny (admiring rednecks and giving birth to watermelons).  Every Friday and Saturday he can be found in West Michigan coffee shops sipping coffee and typing feverishly.  His first book, The Fruitful Life was released in 2005.  He continues to work on multiple book concepts for the future.  He also enjoys writing self-absorbed snooty paragraphs in the traditional third person form.  If you would like to publish any of David’s work below you’ll fine the appropriate information.

David Drury’s Writings

           

Outside of writing, David is a pastor and family man in Spring Lake, Michigan.  Prior to planting two new churches in Indiana & Illinois and serving presently at Spring Lake Wesleyan Church, he graduated from IWU and studied theology at several schools in Boston, completing a thesis and a masters degree at GCTS.  Contrary to the beliefs of many of his friends, he started new churches and studied theology on purpose, not as penance for some grave crime in his past.

Quick facts about David Drury:

¨       He is an adequate husband

¨       He is really bad at lawn care

¨       He doesn’t know any other languages but English

¨       He used to be a rock climber

¨       He now is a kayaker

¨       He gave up rock climbing because it required lifting ones entire body weight with only arm strength

¨       He took up kayaking because you can sit down while doing it

¨       He reads about 20 blogs a week to stay up on the lives and thoughts of his friends

¨       He doesn’t watch TV

¨       He actually does watch a little TV with his wife but he likes to tell people he doesn’t because it makes him sound freakishly focused on reading and writing

¨       He only wears blue shirts Sunday through Thursday (really!)

¨       He only wears men’s clothing

¨       He doesn’t know what people mean when they say “the square root of pi”

¨       He does know that it sounds funny to normal people when they say “the square root of pi”

¨       He throws a mean snowball

¨       He makes great sandcastles

¨       He cannot change the oil in his own car

¨       He is a pretty good cook

¨       He only cooks about once a month so his wife is the truly good cook

¨       He has horrible penmanship

¨       He has adequate grooming habits

¨       He likes Pearl Jam, U2, Ani DiFranco

¨       He likes Coffee, Grapefruits, Pie and

¨       He likes the books of George R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and others without initials in their name such as James Michener, Walter Wangerin & Douglas Coupland

¨       He thinks things are getting better in the world—not worse (really!)

¨       He is Emergent (though not fully emerged)

¨       He is Wesleyan (though not entirely into Wesley)

¨       He is Orthodox (in his creeds and deeds though not in his style)
